Default Heater/Fan problem

Being winter in NY, it is nice to have a good working heater. In my 91 Crx,the fan only works on settings 3 and 4. The fan doesn't work on the 1 & 2 settings. It can't be the motor if it works on 3 & 4. So what could it possibly be?

I would think it would be the switch. The actual switch behind the lever you move with you hand must be bad. That would be the first thing i'd check.

There's a resistor pack under the dash that handles fan speeds. You blew the first two resistors. 1 goes first b/c you use it more than the rest. Then you start using 2 the most and it goes...

Find the resistor pack and either replace it w/ a new one or fix it by soldering in a new resistor. I've heard you can re-solder the break in the resistor, rather then replace it altogether. -scott

It is mounted on the blower housing under the dash behind the glove box. Do not try to resolder it. You can either get a new one ($30 at dealer) or find one from salvage for less.

That's funny for a while now my 1, 2, & 4 speed work fine but when I hit speed 3 the heater stops, then resumes on 4, so I must have a similar problem with mine.
