Default get b18 block or get b20 block?

im about to do the "frankenstein" pretty soon, not very soon, pretty. anyways which block would be better? would it be better to get the b18 and bore it to 2.0 and fully build it? or get the b20 block and fully build that? they would be built for NA setup so itll have all the goodies. high comp pistons, rods, crank, girdle, and sleeves if needed (are sleeves needed for a high hp NA motor?)

and heres my strategy for the project. first do a 1stgen b16 swap in the hatch. save up for the _____block. save up to build it, then take out the lil b16 block and put the new fully built short block on and bam. other then the metal stuff, what electronics would i need for tuning? and other electronics?

The B18* blocks can't be bored to 84mm without aftermarket sleeves.

Sleeves are not required for an N/A build.

a sleeved b18 bored to 84mm will be stronger than a stock b20. if you plan to sleeve either motor, get whichever one is cheaper. for tuning, there are many options. hondata, aem ems, uberdata, etc. see what your tuner is familiar with and what you can afford.

i could find a b18 block much much easier then the b20. theres like 10 b18 blocks at the junyard, head still on em too. so whats a bore? and how do you bore? he hee

The bore is the diameter of the cylider, 81mm on most stock B-series. The B20B/Z has an 84mm bore, that's why it's a 2.0l.

In verb form, it means to make the bore larger (to "bore out" or "overbore.")

To bore, you need a fancy, expensive machine. After the engine has been overbored, it needs to be honed. From there, you can put it back together again (though if you're doing that you might as well have the block checked for trueness and shaved if nessicary. Same goes for the head.)

so isnt overborin it going to cost hella lot? with the hone and all that?

on a b18, you can bore to about 82mm before the cylinder walls get too thin and get weaker. anything past that and you'll need to resleeve. nothing is cheap when it comes to a high performance rebuild.

you got a point. i dont think ima do any borin. ill just fully build what ever block i get, and leave it at stock discplacement.

The cost of a decent overbore and hone is nothing compaired to what the aftermarket pistons you'll need will cost.
