Default Quick PCV Valve / Valve Grommet Question

So it appears my PCV valve grommet is leaking some oil (and potentially causing erratic idle when the outside temperature is hot). I am going to replace it but would like to know if I need to put anything on the grommet other than a dab of oil to ensure a good seal. I read on one web site somewhere where the mentioned using some sort of silicone seal.(???)

Thanks.

just a question...are you boosting this engine? if so then you may be overloading the pcv valve causing a leak

Nope... it's just a plain vanilla CRX SI that seems to have gunky build up around the PCV valve grommet.

It's in the back of the engine... replaced it... we'll see if it leaks.

It's a rubber seal where the pcv valve plugs into on the manifold.

Not necessarily, but if it's damaged it can cause a vacuum leak causing a higher idle.

It turns out that the particular PCV system doesn't add much to the entire vacuum system. I removed the hose into the intake manifold and it didn't do much.
