tell me if I have an Si or Hf
EC means he has a 1st gen CRX. Look in his sig and your will see that it says he has an '87 CRX. Reading your Vin it seems as if your car is a:
4 - ??? I only known them usually to say J (japan manufactured) 1 (USA manufactured) and 2 (Canada manufactured) *1st digit*
H - Honda (the manufacturer) *2nd digit*
M - meaning a passenger car built in Japan *3rd digit*
EC1 - CRX 1.5L *4,5,6th digits*
3 - 2 door coupe manual tranny *7th digit*
1 - Std, HF CRX (85-87) SI digit would have been a 4 here *8th digit*
4 - is just a check digit *9th digit*
H - means it was made in 1987 *10th digit*
S - means it was assembled in Sukuza, Japan *11th digit*
and 12-17 is the sequence in which the car was made, meaning if it said 000001, then your car was the 1st one made.

You guys are making things way too complicated. For '84-87 CRXs, if you have a sunroof, fuel injected engine, and a rear windshield wiper, it's an Si, end of story.
If it's not an Si, check the rear drum brakes. If they're aluminum, it's an Hf, if they're steel, it's a std/DX.

The aluminum drums are more desireable than the steel drums, and nearly ALL original HFs were used as commuter cars, making it highly improbable that the drums would be replaced with steel, since the steel lining was very tough.
It's far more likely for aluminum drums to be put on an Si or DX by an enthusiast.
