I just got a 89 CRX, but not sure if its the HF, I know its not an Si. I think it might be the HF because it says "1500" on the valve cover. I laughed when I found out that i just bought a car with 62 HP . I drive a Subaru with 200 HP big difference there. I know the CRX is lighter but thats besides the point. Is this car worth hooking up? or should I beat the hell out of it like it stole something? IF I ever replaced the engine, it wont be anytime soon. I'm still working on my Subaru Legacy. But I will be doing a lot of little things to the CRX. So the question is, how do I find out if its the HF or not, and is it worth hooking up?

 

check the VIN number - 89 CRX HF should say JHMED836?K??????? - if not, what does it say?

um, if it has 1500 on the block like u say, it's gotta be the hf becuz i have a dx and its the 1.5L Sohc Non Vtec, and it says Honda Motors on it just like most of the non HF CRX's.

 

The interior does look cheap, and when I pick up the car this weekend I'll check the VIN again. Is this car even worth hooking up at all?

 

yes the hf's are worth "hooking up".... the main point why people choose to race this car is mainly the weight... the hf weighs 1819 the dx weighs 1922 and the si weighs 2017 ... and in racing (especially track) weight is very very important... but it all depends how much time, money and devotion you are gonna put into it...

 

I dont know what I'm going to do with the engine, so I'm going to stiffen up the suspension and make it look half way decent. I want to go all carbon fiber body parts. I'm looking to get the carbon hatch first, but if any of you have and tips on what I should do first, please let me know.

 

i would suggest getting an engine first... get the engine you want and then build other arears such as ... suspension, weight reduction, air delivery, fuel delivery, and so forth... but i would suggest you save money up and just get an engine first....

 

No, the easiest way to tell what yo have is by the engine itself. DX has DPFI, HF has MPFI. Simple enough. Or look at the back pass trangle and see what sticker was on there. It will have a hf outline of hf. Also engine code will help also besides the vin. The dead give away is engine.
