Default Temperature Sensor

I had a diagnostic test done yesterday and one of the things they told me I needed was the temperature sensor that controls my "fan", as the fan behind the rad is running constantly. Problem is I don't have a freakin' clue where that is? Is that actually what it is called...just the temperature sensor or is there another name for it?

Thanks for the help...

Jason

it is the coolant temperature switch - it is located on the back of the engine next to the oil filter - has 2 wires to it, a yellow with green stripe and a black

yep the 2 wires are supposed to connect to 2 little sensors right above the oil filter, feel around and u'll notice them there is 1 other wire back there to another sensor, (the 2 wires are the temp sensor), the radiator thermo sensor is the sensor on the passenger side of the block going to the ecu, its a plug type sensor that costs about 20 bucks to replace at most import parts stores.

That is the one that would keep the fan running constantly?

Yes, that sensor tells the fan when to turn on - that is its only function - the other sensor right next to it with one wire is the oil pressure light

All Honda told me was that I needed a new 'temperature sensor'...

So do I need the "switch" or do I need the "sending unit"...because one is $50 (switch) the other is $20 (sending unit)...??? I ask cause I just called a different place other than Honda and that's what they asked me...I didn't know what to tell them.

They told me I needed this because my fan 'never' shuts off...even when I am turning the key to start the car (II), after the first click the headlights and the fan start up and then the engine...the fan never stops...

The engine is a 90' d15b1 will the sensors from my old B2 that I just pulled out work with this engine?

They will probably work, but it's possible that the temperature may be different. You can compare the part numbers at http://www.slhondaparts.com/browse.asp .
