Default B16 swap ECU question?

I have a JDM B16a swap done to my '90 CRX and the ecu that came with it was a pr4. I know that the pr4 normally doesn't control vtec because it's from a ls integra but the guy who did my swap got it to work but to me it seems like it kicks in sometimes and then sometimes it doesn't. I want to switch to either pr3 or pw0 but need help deciding which is better and if I should go chipped or not. I'm running OBD0 and want to stay that way for now. Thanks in advance!!

The PR3 and PW0 are almost perfectly identical, so whichever you can get for cheaper is the way to go. Do NOT chip it!

Why do you say to not chip it? About how much do you think I should be looking to pay for either a pw0/pr3?

chips are just about worthless, they set a fixed fuel map for ur car which isnt good under all conditions, if u want ur ecu set agressively pull the hazard fuse or disconnect the battery and the first few times u drive it afterwards floor it, and ur cars ecu will learn ur driving pattens and set the ecu's map for them. chips just lock in a map for everything which defeats the purpose of an ecu which can change fuel maps under different driving conditions. hope that makes sense

in honda's anyways, now with jeeps and other untuned domestic cars chips can gain hp significantly but not in a highly tuned import like a honda or toyota or nissan, (dont mean to bash domestics here but they are not as tuned with the correct fuel maps as imports)

Thanks so unchipped it's going to be.

But now I need to find out about how much I'm looking to spend on a pr3/pw0 ecu?
