Default Parking brake lose

My parking brake doesnt work untill it's about three inches up. Just wanted to know if the brake line just needs tightened or if something else. They are drum brakes if thats helpful.

take off ur ebrake plastic peices and its a simple turn of a few screws to tighten up the slack. its just a simple cable assembly that you will understand once u take off the plastic peices covering it, all you need is a screw driver and a few minutes.

you will need a screwdriver to pop off the little plastic piece covering the cable and a 10 or 11mm wrench to adjust....i cant remember which it is.

The ebrake cable seldom needs adjustment. Usually the drum brakes are worn and the star adjuster isn't tightening them properly. Technically, there's an access plug on the backing plate for the drums that's supposed to allow you to turn the star adjusters with the wheels still on the car. I've never had any luck with those. I take off the wheel, break the drum loose, and make my adjustment. I consider it a good opportunity to inspect the brakes and repair/replace as necessary. FWIW, I like to put a little anti-seize compound where the drum meets the hub to make it easier to remove next time. -scott

ive had to adjust the ebrake on 2 of my 4 rexes because tehy didnt engage until after the brake was pulled up pretty high, just adjusted the one on my moms plymouth sundance over time if u have the cable held alot it will stretch a bit and need tightened as with any cables. ie throttle and clutch but it is one of the rare things u dont do very often.
