axle

I have an 89 civic dx with a b16a. I am taking my axle off and i was wondering if i need a ball joint seperator to take the lower joint off.

Loosen the castle nut, unscrew it to like maybe one turn before it comes off the ball joint stud. Than give it a wack with a hammer and that should let it loose.
