No, there's a plate above the actual throttle valve that appears to be there to improve throttle response.

The STD is not 8 valve it is 16...
the CRX HF was:

1493cc D15B6 SOHC PGM-FI 8 Valve (USA)

As far as I know...other 8 valves there are the D15A2 & D15A3 & D15B8

I could be wrong...though...I'm still learning this engine crap.

Yeah, my '87 has a second smaller butterfly above the main one. It opens 100% though, so I don't know.

I guess this means he's going to swap TB's then?

This is a little different than the throttle body on your '87. These two plates are in series, so the same air is passing by both of them. Maybe it has something to do with the two injectors. I'm not sure if he's changing the tb or just modifying the linkage.

OK, since I have a std, I have answers with experience.

The upper plate does help throttle response, but it also limits overall flow, remove it, by taking out the 2 screws and reset the ecu.

Also, if you look at the IM, between it and the tb setup is a small black plastic plate. This is an air restrictor plate, remove the plate or bore it out because the stock std plate reduces the intake passage to 35mm down from the normal 47mm size. With the Dx cam, manifold, the plate removed, and the upper flipper, you'll be as fast as or faster than a DX. wooohooo!!

You don't need the dx rockers though, just put the dx cam in and do a valve adjustment. Better yet, buy a Si cam and you'll be much happier, Personally I wouldn't even spend the time putting the Dx cam in. 1/2-3/4 hp at most... the manifolds have the main difference.

I've tried holding it open on my parents' DX Wagon and blipping the throttle, opening the throttle fast enough by hand causes the engine to bog really badly. I don't know how it would be driveable like that, the stock throttle response is bad enough.

I think we'll take a look at this.

There were no Si models at the junkyard, the DX cam is in already. The lobes are visably taller. We did end up using the old rockers. It's running, but no valve adjustment yet.h:

My friend wanted me to post pictures of the pipe he made to adapt the DX downpipe to the STD exhaust. All stainless steel.

Necessary to allow reinstallation of the STD manifold and catalytic converter for NYS inspection.

The plate may seem like it makes it bog, but if you reset the ecu, let it idle for like 5 minutes, and then drive around on it, you should be fine... I drove mine like that with great throttle response for like a month before the mpfi swap...
