A 2201? Why, I believe you just beam the unwanted light back towards Mars. 
On a 2001, though, you would probably hold both SELECT and RESET odo buttons when you turn the key on. Continue to hold them until the MAINT lamp goes off.
The procedure is in the owners manual.
