Default 96 2.5TL steering problem? Help

My friend has a 2.5TL that he uses on the highway everyday for work. Lately he will have the cruise set (happens with or without cruise) and the car will all of a sudden steer toward the ditch and he has to muscle it back to the center. He has taken it to the dealership and they don't know what is going on. Anybody heard of anything like that?

I don't really understand what you are asking. Are you saying that when he lets go the steering wheel and his car swerves? Or are you saying everytime he put it in cruise control and his car swerves?

what I am saying is that on the highway going in a straight line the car will be fine then all of a sudden it like someone grabs the stering wheel and pulls it one way. It is not constant it just does it like every five minutes or so.

This does not make sense. The steering system is mechanical, not electrical. So it is kind of impossible for the problem to appears every 5 minutes or so. There's got to be something more to it. Ask your friend again for a more detailed description of his problem.

Exactly the problem. That is why it doesn't make sense to me. I asked him more than once so who knows what the heck it is. I have never heard of anything close to before.

It is very possible the reaction valve in the steering rack is sticking. Have the rack replace and you will be fine.

can you just replace the reaction valve or do you need to replace the whole rack?

Not sure if you can just get the valve, Since the valve is sticking the rack is on its last legs anyways. Be safe not sorry.

sounds like a bad steering joint/tie rod. if the joint is bad, it could cause sporatic steering changes
