93 Vigor Drive4 Blinking
Every once in a while my check engine light goes on and the D4 is blinking. I drive for a while, shut the car off and start it up again and everything is back to normal for a while. Lately it has started up rough but after it runs a while it smooths out and can start up just fine. Can anyone tell me what is going on?
The Check Engine Light will come on if there's a problem with the Vig's engine management system (PGM-FI). It's usually a sensor. If the D4 light comes on, it usually means the Transmission Control Module has detected a problem, but some PGM-FI problems can cause both lights to come on.
Next time one or both lights come(s) on, you'll have to jump the pins on the Service Check connector (on the passenger side, under the dash or under the carpet by the console). When you do this, either the Check Engine Light or the D4 light will blink a code that will point you to the problem area.
Since yours is intermittant, it sounds like something is "getting ready" to go. If you remove the Backup Fuse (#39 under the hood) it'll re-set the codes. But make sure you know your stereo's anti-theft code before you pull that fuse!
Hope this helps.

Sounds like there's a problem with the Coolant Temp Sensor circuit. This is one of those PGM-FI codes that also affects the tranny. Problems in that circuit can cause the tranny lock-up clutch not to engage.
Make sure the sensor is connected. If there are no loose connections, then check the sensor itself before you spend your money and replace it. If the sensor checks out okay, then there may be a wiring problem.
If you're not sure how to check the sensor, go to the Acura Vigor Club and do a search on "temp sensor." I wrote a few different articles about checking these sensors.
Just so you don't get confused, they're called "ECT" and "TW" sensors, depending on the particular Honda manual you're using. Different names for the same sensor. Confusing!
