Default camshaft help

i have a 93 vigor gs and it wont start. i had my mechanic take a look at it to see if it was the timing belt and come to find out it is the camshaft that is broken. can anyone tell me the best place to get a replacement camshaft and how hard of a job is it?

It is pretty hard to have a broken camshaft. You sure it is not something else? Does your engine crank when you try to fire it up or does it not even make any noise?

Since it is a overhead engine, replacing the camshaft isn't hard if you are a competent mechanic. But if you have never done it before, pay someone to do it for you.

the engine does crank but just doesnt start. the mechanic said that when he tried to start the car, another mechanic looked to see what was going on inside the engine and he saw that the camshaft wasn't turning.

well i called around to see if i was able to get the camshaft just alone but every junk yard told me that they will only see the complete cylinder head assembly...so i called a small junk yard and they told me that they would sell me the entire engine with a warranty, 130,000 miles that runs excellent the car was just hit from the back real bad. so i went and bought it today and now my mechanic is just going to replace the cylinder head but not the entire engine. is it alright just to replace the cylinder head since that is the only thing that is effected and the rest of the engine is fine?

If I were you, I would just replace the whole thing as it comes with a warranty. If you take it apart, I doubt the warranty would still stand.

if the timing belt broken the camshaft will not spin you have to pull the timing cover to inspect. and on those 2.5 motors they can bend valves it's a 50/50 chance if the camshaft is infact broken there might be more serious problems as usally it happens due to lack of oil changes causing it to snap due to poor lubrication.

Werd, if the timing belt snapped, the crank will still turn but the cams won't. I have never heard of a camshaft breaking unless it was a high performance car. If the new engine you bought is in better condition than your own, just swap

well i decided that i am just going to swap the engine that i just bought because it runs great and everything is there and intact with no problems. i just have a concern, the car it came out of was a 92 vigor ls, not too many options such as dual air bags and i am not sure about 4 wheel abs, will my car still have these options. also the car that it was taken out of is manual, mine being auto, what will i have to do to make it compatible, does anything need to be done?

If the engine that you bought doesn't have abs then its' going to be r4ally hard to install and as four being manual i'ts not too hard just swap trannys, ecu and some other options
