There are alot of things that could be wrong and we need more information from you before we can help you to diagnose your problem. The more information, the better. Does your car restart right away without any problems after it shuts off? Does your car drive normal otherwise? When was the last time you had a tune-up? What was done in that tune-up? What is your mileage?

The car only turns off when I stop at the stop light. It runs fine, it has 126k miles. I recently bought the car from a auction, so don't know if a tune-up was ever done on it. The rpm when I slow down goes to lower than 1. I appreciate all the help.

Well, if you don't know the history, then do a full tune-up and see what happens.
