Default 89 octane gas in an 04-06 TL

has anyone tried to run 89 octane gas in an 04-06 TL? Just wondering if they had any issues with this? Hehe...trying to see how much I can save on gas.

Come on now. If you can afford a TL, is it even worth it to save about $3 per tank? TL uses a high compression engine, therefore, needs higher octane gas. If you use lower grade gas, your engine will probably go into detonation under high loads and the TL will automatically retard the timing. Just to let you know, detonation is VERY bad for the engine.

Compression ratio in my '05 TL is 11:1. That is very high. Like previous poster said, why spend the money on the car then not be able to fully enjoy it due to low octane fuel.

actually it's bad but not too bad. your ecu will compensate for the ower octane reconfigure your programs to run on lower octane you might see less power. IF YOU REALLY have to this then get premuim every 3 fill-ups.

I have an 03 cl type s that I run 89 octane in, but it all depends on what kind of driving you do. Basically it is my commuter car that goes about 25 miles of all highway a day. It does not see high speeds nor high rpms.
