Default Problem with Alarm

I have a unique problem that has only occurred on a few occasions. As I start my 2000 TL, the alarm goes off unexpectedly and no matter how hard I push the disarm button, it will not go off until it has run through its cycle of a couple of minutes, but they are the LONGEST couple of minutes! The horn is beeping and the lights are flashing, and I don't know how to turn it off. We thought it might be weak batteries in the clicker, and after changing the batteries, it lasted a while but then it happens again. Anybody have any ideas?

You don't push the panic button to push turn it off. You use the disarm button to disarm the alarm.
