Default Regular unleaded, mid grade or Premium for my 2001 Acura CL

I was hoping for some information on the effect of running regular unleaded or mid grade in my 2001 Acura CL as opposed to the Premium that is suggested when you open the door to fill the tank.

Thanks

The engine is built to perform at it's max with a higher octane fuel.
Our engines are inherently de-tuned when compared to their Japan dwelling cousins.
Because they have much higher grades of gas over there.
I think I would stick with the Premium, and use the correct oil, and do scheduled maintenance, and do all the other seemingly little things that Honda suggests.

Just ask yourself this question, how much are you saving per tank by now buying premium gas?

thats a really good point maybe a buck or a buck and a quarter.

I was going to get air filters today and picked up the honda one instead of the fram and paid ten bucks more for the honda one and that was after the parts guy cut me a ten dollar break. Now I do believe that its improtant to keep things at factory spec and air intake is an important part of keeping an engine running well so I bit the bullett and bought the OEM part. I figured after reading a few posts on the fram airhog is it worth it thread that even frams regular filter wasnt necessarily designeed for this vehicle/engine.

On the Gas what is the effect of running the mid grad or the regular unleaded?? Is it bad for the engine (obviously I'm talking about if its not knocking) or will just hurt preformance?

I plan on running the Premium in it!!

Lets say you have a car full of 200 lbs adults. You are about to go uphill and you want to pass a slow moving vehicle. You press on the accelerator hard, if you are not using premium gas, your engine will sense detonation and will retart the timing automatically, thus, reducing the power to the engine. Basically, anything you put a heavy load on the engine and if you don't have premium gas, there's a pretty good chance that the car will retart the timing to minimize detonation.

Default declining fuel quality

well I tried three gallons as I didnt want to get stuck with a tankful of under preforming gas and I did feel what you said it dosent preform as well. after driving it for a while I promptly filled the tank with Premium.

There was a very interesting article in the Milwaukee Journal yesterday regarding problems with declining fuel quality apparently even in some premium brands that really goet me thinking and reinforced the need for premium in my Acura. the detergent levels in tsome gas has been causing problems for many fuel injectors and it specifically talks about hondas as being one of the affected brands.

looks like based on this until they start naaming names I'm going to stick to Shell and Mobil premium wherever possible.

Thanks
If you read the drivers manual which comes with the car it specifically states that you should run premium (91 and above) in the CL or you will experience detonation. I can look up the page number tomorrow for you if you would like.
