To do a proper brake job:

Make sure that you treat the backs of the pads with the appropriate silencing material. Sometimes, the fronts of the pads can be treated with silencing material.

You need to use the proper synthetic grease on the moving parts.

If you cut the rotors, put a nondirectional finish on the rotors, and wash the rotors with soap and water after the nondirectional finish is complete.

On Honda/acuras all you need to do is coat the pad backings with the black molycoat grease that comes with the pads. place the shims on properly and you're good to go. Honda/acura's don't get any treatments to the front linings, I wouldn't get any grease or foreign material on the front linings.
He is right though, I know european cars like VW/Audi use a treatment on the front of the linings.
