Default Changing a Gearshift Knob?

I have a 2000 TL and I want to change the gearshift knob. I tried unscrewing the knob, but it's on tight and won't budge. Can I use a tool to loosen it without damaging it? If so, which tool?

I know it sounds dumb. It's the wife's TL, it's extremely cold outside and I need somewhere to stay if I goof it up.

I believe you just have to screw it counter-clockwise to unscrew it.

I took a "Man Pill" and tried it. Eureka! It worked. Thanks for your help AcuraTL.
