Default 97 2.5TL Starter Problem

HELP!

When I turn the key to start my car nothing happens
I turned off the car to go inside and when I came out the problem appeared.

The battery has a full charge, but the starter will not turn the engine. Does anyone have any ideas on what could be the problem or if there is a common problem? And of course a aftermarket service manual is not available at Pep Boys!

This situation would be easy to check if only you had easy access to the starter under the intake.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Dead alternator maybe? Or a dead starter. Can't think of anything else.

Odd that happened. My 1993 Vigor with the same motor has never had any problem like that.

I finally got off my lazy butt and got down and dirty and checked out the circuit. The starter is bad. I do not know if it is the starter itself or the solenoid.

Does anyone have one?

Do you have to remove the intake or can you fish squeez it out? How many bolts and/or nuts are holding the starter in? It looks like 2 17mm bolts?

It looks like with the right tools you can get the bolts out without removing the intake.

BTW the car has almost 150,000 miles.

for now, give the starter a knock with something made out of wood - like the handle of a hammer... that is, if it is accessible enought. its a pretty common problem. you can get it started pretty easily with this method, but its not a permanent fix... you'll have to get it replaced pretty soon. same thing happened with my accord. one night it just wouldn't start, gave it a tap and it came to life.

Maybe that's why. My Vigor only has 124,000 on it.
