Default radar detectors

well... long story short, i got pulled over yesterday and was ticketed for going 50 in a 35 (we are going to court, i have opinions of the entire thing, but im not going to express them here...) if they convict me, there is gonna be a 45% hike in my insurance, about $1000 for half a year's worth. so to not have to go through this entire thing ever agian, im going to get a detector, im thinking of the PNI Traveller. i wanted to know if anyone has had any experences with this or with another product they found really good.

All detectors do pretty much the same thing, which is detect radar. However, if you fork over more $$ for something like a Valentine 1, you buy better range, i.e. earlier warning. I have a V1 and its great. Just remeber that nothing is full proof. All a radar detector is is a tool to help you not get caught. It's not a guarantee.

Also make sure you get one that is undectable by VG-2. This is what the cops use as a radar detector detector. A detector that is undectable by VG-2 sends out less noise than others and will not set mine off! Nothing makes me more angry than sitting at a stop light next to someone who has a crappy a$$ detector that sets mine off all the time.

The better detector, the better sensitivity (range) and less falses (some have a false detection) you will get. Look at getting a Bel. They are pretty good and they are not too expensive. Last years Bel 980 is good and can be found on ebay cheap.

Help out fellow detector owners and get one that won't set other people's off PLEASE!!

Bel's are good for the money. If you want total security then go w/ the K40. that is a radar and laser jammer of course its over $1000 but if you deff wanna save your insurance $$ then its worth it

Surprised nobody has mentioned the Escort 8500. It runs around $300, and it is well worth the money. I've had mine for over 2 years now, I've never been ticketed, or even pulled over. It is rated "world's best" year after year. The V1 is also a very strong competitor with the 8500, but it's also alot more expensive.
