wow... right after i posted that i checked my email... and WOAH, i received and email from a company that sells these things like exclusively, i had apparently requested samples of their products and they sent me a bunch of info, this is actually a cool ass idea.. heres a quote from the email:

“Multimedia Video Mirror” is developed by Eagle Sky Tech. Ltd. according to the international trend of auto multimedia products, this auto multimedia rear view mirror is very easy to install on different kinds of vehicles by fixing it on the original rear view mirror with detains and belts. It works not only as a normal rear view mirror, but also achieve the various colored visual image shown in the LCD screen in the mirror. In other words, when Power is turned on, it will work as a LCD playing screen shown in picture below and when it is off, it will work as a normal mirror .

thats awesome, when it isnt turned on its a normal mirror... sweeeet

different models run from like $325 up to $375

sketch...

Thanks for the info. I just found it on the net and it's perfect for an idea I have for a product. Do you have a url with more information? I need power consumption, signal requirements, etc.

the rapper redman has been seen with this in his escalade he has spoke of getting them custom on his door mirrors also. its not that hard to do your self if you wanted but it seems like it could be illegeal as hell. good for show i suppose. mirrors can be scraped from the back and made to clear glass just pop your mirror glass off clean a square the size of your small screen mount the screen in your mirror housing run the wires up the shaft and reattach the mirror glass to the housing. no hard and im sure screens that size are fairly cheap. maybe easier to do with broadway mirrors just break your old mirror glass so its just the housing cut a square out of the back of your broadway mirror and clip it over. they were orginally thought of i think for rv's and such with rear view cameras but hey mobile video is at all time high right now and anything goes.
