Default Integra alarm problem

All of a sudden the factory installed alarm on my 97 Integra GS-R is sounding. I click the lock button on the remote and about 5-7 seconds later the alarm goes off.

I've checked the doors and hatch and they are all closed - besides it would chirp at me if one of them were ajar and I attempted to set the alarm.

Is this an electronics problem that I need to have checked by the dealer?

Thanks for any help!

Sounds like a short within either the wiring or the alarm brain....

Does the alarm "think" one of the doors isn't fully closed when you arm the system? Does it chirp at you- when you know the doors and trunk are shut fully?

If so, a shim on the door / trunk at the position of the appropriate switch might work as an interim fix.

Oh, is your GS-R a sedan or hatch? Only wondering because on my 97 LS 2dr, one of the door switches has already failed-and it may be a part of your problem. More doors, more chances for a switch failing.

Anywho... hope my input helps some..

Dave.

No it doesn't chirp at me. It locks and sets the alarm - then starts honking 5 seconds later.

My car is a hatchback.

I'm afraid it could be the alarm brain

Thanks for the response

Darn, so much for a cheap fix...

Hmm, check up on HAP Recycling, if you're on the west coast. A big time Honda/Acura recycler. Perhaps you can find a deal on another brain...:dunno:

Best of luck.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm on the East Coast - Wilmington Delaware - so I don't think I'll make the trek

Same thing happened to me, luckily it was just a blown fuse that caused the problem. Check your interior or trunk lights. Do they still work? If not, maybe you blew a fuse.

Take out the door switches (its probably a 10mm bolt)

all of them

disconnect the wires to them, see if it still sounds. If it doesnt, you have a bad switch. Then do it one by one.
