Default need a new HU....

I'm currently running the Pioneer deh-p6400. It's not to bad, good eyecandy, 15 points of sound adjustment, and what I love most, a sub gain with an adjustable cutoff intigrated.

Thats probably what I love most about it, the sub adjuster. I think sound quality is suffering due to the HU itself.

I have kenwood dualmag 6.5" speakers up front, and kenwood 3-way 6x9's in back. All running off a kenwood 800w stereo amp. They're getting plenty of power.

I think I could be using a better HU, tho. But the thing is, I want that sub adjustablity, with the gain/cutoff. What higher-end HU's feature that?

I don't need MP3 capability. Just something that sounds hella good.

suggestions

fuck sony.

I'll never buy a sony product again

I'm looking for something good

I'm thinking along the lines of Alpine, Clarion, or Eclipse. Something up along those lines, and a sub $500 price tag

have you looked into kenwood HU's at all? I have last years mp919 model, which has cut off frequencies for front & rear speakers as well as for the subwoofer. It also has a built in "gain" for the sub, as well as a button that mutes the sub altogether. It sounds really good once you get past all the eq settings. The only thing with their 2003 HU's however, is the styling - kinda ugly IMO.

I'll agree with you about Sony though, I had a Sony HU crap out after 9 months of owning it, that was the 1st and last time a Sony product gets in my car.

has good sound quality, plays mp3/wma formats (in case you do want it ever!), XM ready, 3 sets of preamp outputs (1 for Highs, 1 for Mids, 1 for Subwoofer!!). 50watts X 4 power, built in equalizer and a sweet display you can customize...

how can you say anything kenwood or sony sucks? Sure sony xplod series sucks, I can't count the number of people, including myself who have had bad experience with xplod products. But have you ever heard of the ES line, I don't think they currently make any ES mobile stuff, but that line was pretty damn high quality. And as for kenwood sucking...what is that based on? The only problem I have ever heard about with any of their products is that the motorized faces on their HU's have been known to malfunction, which is covered under warranty. Their upper range HU's (as well as the eXcelon line) sound and look great and have everything an audiophile would ever want when it comes to adjustability and expandability.

I'll agree that Nak makes some high quality HU's, but they are lacking in the design department, especially for their price tags.

If you're looking for a HU that has the same features as Pioneer, Kenwoods stacks up next to it. Sony's are ok but I wouldn't recommend them from all the best experiences I've seen. If you're in love with Pioneer so much, just stick with them and get a higher model.
