basically alarms don't do crap. I got my factory alarm for $150+$75 install and only use it for keyless entry.
I wouldn't bother spending a lot of money on an alarm. You'd be better of getting some sort of vehicle tracking system and making friend with the insurance agent

Make sure that it has a "zone" for the hood. I was working with this guy, and his factory alarm had the trunk as a zone, but not the hood.
I guess it's for prima-donnas who got more BASS than RACE.

im planning on getting this new option with directed...kinda like a GPS system, you can track the location of the car via internet. no where as expensive as lojack, but also has its ups and downs when compared to it.

i dont understand "zone"
if it has a hood sensor (ie, it goes off when the hood is popped) than the alarm is said to have a hood "zone"

I would just like to say the best alarm in the world sucks if its not installed right. Bury the siren somewhere hard to locate both by sight and sound and bury the brain deep in the car somewhere.

What about those 2 way paging alarms? I was thinking about getting one of those. I'm more worried about people breaking in rather than stealing the car as a whole. From my experience they aim for parts. Rims, Headlights, ECU Shift knobs, prescription Sun glasses etc… Stupid things that can be easily sold on the streets. In NYC alarms won't do much b/c nobody really pays attention to them so for me a 2 way system. Any economical suggestions
thanks,
Mike

Also get yourself some really loud airhorns! People will be more likely to pay attention to something that sounds a little different than the average car alarm siren.
