seems to get quieter and quiter on my way home. the face is very warm to the touch. sometimes the speakers all shut down and i have to turn the stereo off and back on to get them to work again. is she shot, or is there a quick fix for this?

Which model? There were a couple models that have been problem prone...or so I remember when I was working in a bay last year. I think the 6000 was coming back a lot.

The capacitors inside the deck itself could be going bad and unable to hold a charge as well as they did before, possibly drying up? Kind of a weird thing to happen, but possible.

How's the alternator on your car? battery?

...might be shot.

it's because it's a pioneer.. most of them do that within 2-3 years... save yourself the headache of gettin it fixed and get yourself a nice alpine... they last forever... i've got a '92 model alpine that still works like it did from day one.

Stop being one of those brand basher people. Not trying to be a jerk, but it never really helps. Yes Alpine is good. However, Pioneer is a solid brand as well...so don't get your panties in a bunch.

As for your deck, it's cheaper to get a new one at this point.

i think what it is is that on the hiway in the morning i try to get this station out of chi town, so the further away i get the louder and louder i get it...and its wrecking the deck. it doesnt seem to be _as bad_ with just the cd player, but i think shes coughing her way out regardless Could it have to do with the RCAs crossing in the back? ive got my amp/sub out right now so theyre all coiled up and could be knicking one another.

that's a nice replacement, i might consider that if i have to. similar to mine but it adds a remote and MP3 capes. I dont really want to dump my deck, i love my deck.

and i would have considered alpine but SD doesnt sell alpine. hmm...could tell you something.

i'm not brand bashing, i'm speaking from personal experience. i've had two pioneer decks and have had bad experiences with both of them. the two pioneer decks lasted about a year and a half each... the alpine that was made in 1992 still works. coincidence? i don't think so.

You've had a bad experience with Pioneer.... Fine. You are the minority, so cool your jets, chief! I understand, but I don't trust you 100%. Pioneers are the LEAST we see where I work, and the ones that we do see are 90% customer abuse. You ask all the people on HAN - including ArchIceman, the only person I would trust on HAN, considering his vehicle and customer base -- and they will agree that Pioneer is nowhere NEAR as bad as you make them out to be.

Not likely your RCA's -- they are too low output to cause any real damage (unless you have -- or had -- a ground issue with your amps. Ground reference for the head unit is pulled from the amp, and if the ground on the amp is bad, you could do damage). If the head unit is running hot, 95% chance the output amp ic is going bad -- we charge 150.00 to replace one as a cash repair (the part is about 40.00, Pioneer OEM only)
