Default Amp Overheating

I have a phoenix gold amp that overheats. When it overheats the sound stops and comes back on when the sub cools down. what can I do as a temporary solution or a permanent solution to stop this overheating because it drives me crazy and I am strapped for cash. thanks

is your output impedance on the amp matched to the speakers? if not the speakers could be drawing too much power from the amp thus causing it to overheat.

^make sure you arent running too low of an OHM load on the amp. itll help if you post your setup.

also make sure the 12+/ground is good enough. also are you giving the amp room to ventilate?

im talking about the OHM load.

the OHM depends on how you wire those subs together and present it to the amp. if the OHM load is too low, that means its drawing too much power, more than the amp can give out without over-heating.

post the specs of the amp and the subs.

hey guy, the "ohm" load you speak of is called impedance which is measured in ohms.

i agree... post amp and speaker specs and we can fix it

sorry im not very technical but I can try my best to put some specs:

the subs(2) have a capacity of 4ohms each. the speakers are volskwagen stocks and honestly, I dont have a clue about the specs of the amp. All i know is its a phoenix gold amp 300w. The professional installer of this stuff told me to get a gelpack or a fan for the sub but i am quite strapped for cash so wondering if there was some setting i culd change to make it not overheat or even somethin else.

thanks for ur time

are you able to tell me if those subs are DVC or SVC....DVC means that there are 2 voicecoils. when you look at the subs there will be 2+ and 2-. SVC with just have one of each.

then can you tell me the model number of that amp.

maybe the subs are wired in // bridged on the amp and the amp could not be stable @2OHM bridged.
