Default Stock head unit preamps Question

Quick question

a friend of mine blew the pre amps on his 99 civic ex cd player while trying to hook up subs to it. Basically, the ground was loose and right now it lights up, the buttons work , but there is no noise coming from it. Is this head unit pretty much dead or is there hope?

Any info would help. Thanks.

Never heard of a stock head unit with pre amp out. You sure he wasn't using a line level converter?
Anyways, if there are lights but no output, that's a great excuse to replace it with a new unit and enjoy even better sound.

There are no pre-amps on any Honda deck.

Randy and Siclone

Thanks for your responses. If there are no pre amps, do you guys know what can be wrong. Right now he is running a prelude head unit, but it lights up amber as oppose to green and it doesn't have a clock, where a civic does. The reason why he is hooking up amps to the head unit is because he's already had 2 aftermarket head units stolen. And when putting back his stock one, his ground wire or power wire got loose (stupid installer cut his harness) touched the chasis. What do you guys think is or can be wrong? Oh and he says there wasa burn smell.

Thanks again

it doesn't have a clock because the preludes have a clock up by the windshield.

sounds like he fried something, but still curious how he was going to run an amp unless he has line out adap. if he has lights but no sound i'm guessing it could be fixed pretty easely, i once fried my outs on an alpine then took it to a local radio shop and got it fixed for under 100.00, or he could go to a junk yard and probably get another just like it for cheaper than fixing that one. must have been the hot wire grounding out on frame as ground wouldn't hurt if making contact with body or frame

He definitely fried something. ANd I believe the power wire got loose and shorted it out. We tried opening it and we got stuck half way. Couldn't get far enough to look at the internals that well. And, yes, he's using line out converters to hook up the amp. Anyhow, any one have an extra honda civic cd player not SI 99=00 for sale for cheap?
