i have two mtx thunder 6000 in an undersized sealed box (looks like a box for two eights, good thing tho is i still have room in my trunk)..and a rockford fosgate 500 watt amp powering both...BOX IS EVERYTHING! i have some friends with some lower line products than me but with a bigger and better box and it hits better and bassier than mine. My question is can i just stuff polyfill/cotton in the back of the speakers inside the box to compensate for sound? I heard it makes the box appear as if it were bigger..and it slows down the sound waves..how much should i stuff? till its packed? or loose? thanks yall

 

i think its about 1lb per sq foot.

you should make sure that the box is within specs of the sub.

 

Kind of loose. I used it in a box I made for a pair of IDQ 10s, and there was a noticeable difference, assuming (like what Will said) the box is within specs for the sub.

 

yeah the box is rated at just under one cubic foot for each sub...that sucks huh?!?! so i wont work then? should i just get a nother box made...if it does work what sound difference can i expect...?

 

find out how much space those MTX need. you never stated if they are 10s or 12s. if they are within range of the subs specs, then its all good.

 

Polyfill does not increase box volume. You either live with tight bass or get a larger box for boomier and deeper bass.

 

Just try it, its not going to damage anything, and they only way youre going to find out is by experimenting.

Besides polyfill is only like $5-6 which is cheaper than a new box.

 

i use cotton batting, it works very nice...adds like 50% suppsodly to the "sound volume" of the box. one hting to watch for with cotton or other organic fibers is they start on fire, where polyester just melts....and i mean a damn good fire...dont solder near it, lol.
