Default can i run 4 speakers off my amp and 2 off my headunit?

i have a kenwood 4 channel amp hooked up to my head unit, and off of that im running my components and 6x9's. can i get a set of midbass driver thingys and just run them off my head unit? or those off the amp and maybe the 6x9's off the head unit?

yes? no?

im not 100% sure, but i think it depends on the head unit. i dont know if the HU will power its channels if its running an amp off of the outputs. once again im not sure.

if it does work. i would run the component that requires the least amount of power...in this case, the 6x9, off of the HU.

Why not just run all the speakers off of your amp???

i.e. run the components with the front channels at 4 ohm stereo and the 6x9's and midbass drivers of the rear channels at 2 ohm stereo (this last part is assuming that your 6x9's and midbass drivers are all 4 ohm).

Yes, as long as they are all 4 ohms. You're basically running those 4 speakers in parallel (changing the resistance from 4 ohm to 2 ohm per channel). Your amp can handle this easily.

First things first...... does your head unit have RCA pre-outs or are you just using the factory head? If you have RCAs you can run your power amp and all four channels of the head at the same time, but if you don't have RCAs, I don't recomend running the amp off one set and speakers off the other..... all four channels use the same output amplifier.

You are in luck. You can run your amps off the RCAs, and run all four speakers off the head unit as well if you like. Since the RCA outputs do not have a load and aren't run to full output voltage, they come off the volume IC. Heck, you could run 50 power amps off the RCAs. O.K. slight exageration, but you get my point.
