Default im lookin to buy a new head unit... which sounds the best?

i have a sony headunit now, its 52 x 4, and presonally, i think it sounds great, with my stock pioneer speakers.

the one problem is that it doesnt play to the front right, because i bought it on ebay. i brought it to united radio to get it fixed, they said they fixed it, but they didnt, and i dont want to go through their system again, so im thinkin about another one....

i heard pioneer sounds pretty good, any other suggestions?

Alpine. They just dropped off a bunch of stuff for my car and WOW! Blows away Sony Bologne big time.

I used to have the top of the line Sony ES tape deck which retailed for $900 for a cassette deck? Then thier best changer and televisions. I replaced it all with an older Alpine from 1992 and it still sounded better than the Sony which was 5 years newer. Ive been sponsored by both companies. I havent had Sony in my car in over 4 years.

Sony's typically fail after 3 years. Each and every single one of my Alpines still work to this day. Sound quality is better on Alpine. And Sony products never got me to a National Championship like Alpine did.

A few of my friends run Alpine and seems like they have better sound quality than my Kenwood eXcelon 817. If your really serious get the handmade Alpine deck, I think it's something like $1500?

I wasnt aware of any handmade decks by Alpine unless youre talking about the F1 Status system they have which will run way over $1,500 for the complete system you need for it to work as they intended.

I over heard the Alpine rep this week over at a local install shop telling them about a deck that was handmade and cost about $1500. Also said they will only make ~1000 decks, I don't know the model number. I could also heard wrong.

The rep for my area was just at my place friday dropping off some equipment for me to demo and we had lunch together. Im suprised he never mentioned it to me.

The Alpine F1 Status CDA-7990 is handmade and limited to a few exclusive dealers, but it retails for $3,000 for the head unit only. You would still need the PXA-H900 to fully utilize the system, and that retails for $4,500 I think. I definitely think he would mention it to me since I have 2 of these systems in my personal cars.

The only thing I can think of that Alpine is producing in the $1,500 price range is the IVA-C800, but its not a limited production. The only thing I can think of that would possibly match what you heard is if they are going to reproduce the very popular CDA-7909 again, which was a classic in its time. I could understand that model being a limited production run, and the $1,500 price. People who saved them were asking $1,200 3 years ago and the unit then was already over 7 years old.

everyone has their own opinion... i may have just had crappy luck with JVC and Pioneer, but i've had both and neither lasted over a year... i do have an alpine that is 10 years old and still works.. when it comes to car audio, you get what you pay for.
