Default Broken headlight/turn signal switch

I have a 5G (1992-1995) Civic. For the past year, I've had occasional problems with the left control stalk. Sometimes, the rotary switch (headlights) seems stiff and difficult when turning the headlights on. Sometimes, the switch doesn't even want to rotate. I let the car warm up and gently wiggle the switch into position.

The headlight usually turn on, but sometimes, ONLY the headlights turn on. All instrument lights and parking and taillights are OFF. When I jiggle the switch (turn the switch towards the parking light position without clicking into the position) the interior/parking/taillights go on. Or sometimes the headlight turn off but the parking/instrument/taillights stay on, even though the switch is in the headlight ON position.

The other problem is the high beam. When I pull the stalk back, it clicks and the high beams stay on. Now occasionally, the high beams won't click on. That is, I pull the switch towards me, but it doesn't click, and when I let go of the stalk, the high beams ARE NOT on.

I don't know if temperature plays a part, but it seems to happen mostly in the cold.

Has anyone ever replaced a control stalk or had problems with one? I could not find interior diagrams of the control stalk (internal diagrams showing how the control stalk works).

Before doing anything, if you haven't already, spray the switch with some good contact cleaner. You may just have dirty contacts. I've found that spraying cleaner cures alot of these types of problems without even taking something appart. I'm not saying that will take care of it, but might as well try.

If Civics are anything like Accords, i wouldn't take control stalk unless u kno what you're doing. I had the opportunity in taking my bro's accord apart because it malfunctioned and let me tell u that it's almost impossible for u to fix on ur own. I'd take it back to the dealer to get it fix. oh btw...the prob with his control stalk was that one of the electrical wires melted and metal was exposed.

I just bought one from a wrecked Integra. Let's hope it fits...

Integra one fits like a charm. My old Civic one had a broken electrical contact. Some of the plastic was melted, and this contributed to damage to the rotary switch...
