Infinity BassLink
...another question or two. If the rear shelf speakers are only for 'fill', would it make sense to install a smaller speaker (4x6,5x7?) in the 6x9 opening in my Accord? Would the gap allow enough bass to get through from a sub in the trunk, or would this kind of thing just screw up the sound?
are you running all 4 speakers from a stock unit?
My friend has the basslink in his 94 LX, major concern is placement of the thing. It really didnt give that great of a low end punch... even with it's integrated 200watt amp.
And about your idea of using a smaller speaker.. you'll need an adapter to use a smaller speaker... I dont see where the space/gaps would come from the adapter is supposed to fill in the bigger hole make fit for a 5x7 or whatever...
Rear speakers are not just for fill IMO, they give music spatial ambiance. But the consensus around here and I agree is to have components up front, rears the same in the back.

I have the following on order to replace the stock setup...
Alpine 7894 deck
Infinity Kappa components for the front
Instead of a solid plate to mount smaller speakers in the 6x9 opening, I was thinking along the lines of using standoffs from the stock screw holes to the (small) speaker mounts. This would leave a gap between the cutout and the speaker of approximately 1". But I'm wondering if that would mess up the speaker's response - maybe a small enclosure would have to be built. Apparently some people have cut holes in their rear decks to get the bass out of the trunk.

A basslink is a great option for just adding some low end. If you are not a bass-head and just want a little extra punch to the stereo, go for it.
With the rear speakers... the only way they will sound good is if the front and rear of the speaker are totally seperated... when the sound from the rear of the speaker meets the sound from the front of the speaker, some frequencies start to cancel each other out... making the speaker sound terrible.
The basslink is powerful enough to penetrate the rear seat, without the need for extra "ports" to let the sound into the car.
If you are really concerned about it, you may want to try something a little more powerful, like a seperate subwoofer and amp combination.

Yup, that's what I'm looking for - just to add some bottom end. I also want to use the trunk for regular trunk stuff. I'll order in some new 6x9 rears - so far I'm going Infinity Kappa components for the front, and now the BassLink. So what do you think about Infinitys for the rear?

The BassLink is absolutely awsome.
Prior to buying my LS, I ran mine with an "Xplod" deck and Infinity 5-1/4" w/ Denon tweets.
I like a tighter, less boomy bassline and the BassLink totally delivers.
Nice size, reasonable weight too.

I'm in the middle of my installation right now. I've got the interior taken apart in my 95 Accord EX V6.
This is what's going in:
Alpine 7894
Alpine MRV-F340
Alpine CHA-S634
Infinity Kappa 60.5CS
Infinity Kappa 692.5
Infinity Basslink
Does anybody know where the factory crossovers for the front woofer/tweeters are hidden? Without ripping the entire dash apart, I can't find anything that looks like a crossover.
