stereo cutting in and out
My specs
MTX TA 3404 Amp
http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...roductID=15174
Polk Componets up front
Infinity References in the back.
At first my alternator started to whine(sounded like a spaceship was taking off)
The shop replaced the alternator with a upgraded alt 90 watts? instead of 80(also replaced all the belts including the timing belt)
The stereo is still cutting in and out, they suggested I get a Capacitor, but with only one small amp, I dont see why I would need one. HELP PLEASE!!!

Alternators are measured in amperages....90 amp alternator.
When the stereo is cutting in and out, what are you doing? Playing at a LOUD volume? When you say cutting in and out, is it all the speakers? Is the amp turning on and off? Is the amp staying on?

-at very low volumes it will play(I mean very low)
-the amp is cutting in and out(this happened with the previus amp too, so I know its not the amp)
-yes, all speakers are affected by this

ok, I replaced my battery with a optima red top battery and the amp still cuts in and out.
things Ive checked
-ground
-replaced battery with red top
-did the same thing(but less often) with previous alpine amp
-replaced alternator with 90 amp
I am out of stuff to do...Do I need a cap?

What are the specs on the amp & speakers? Specifically, is the amp stable at the impedance your asking from it?
Did you match the gain/sensitivity to the preamp output voltage correctly?

check your speaker connections, one or more of your speakers are probably grounding out causing you to have this problem. a buddy of mine was having this same problem and we fixed it by rewiring the whole car from the head unit back. its not fun but it will save you money from buying a cap
