Default Problem: Bass rumbling

I run a 15" Alpine sub through a hifonics bxi606 amp. The amp came with a bass level knob which i ran to the front dash. When i turn the bass up on the knob about 1/3 of the way through, the bass just begins a continuous rubbling and doesnt follow the music. anyone know why?

If you keep it below 1/3 is it fine through all the vol range? Do you know the model of the speakers and how they are wired? A lot of the time those bass knobs are just bass boost knobs and its not usually a good idea to turn them up very high.

Is the amp grounded well, with a short fat wire? Are your audio cables run down the opposite side of the car away from the power cable?

Based on how little he knows about what he has, the crossover is probably set way too high as well as the gain. What he's hearing is port noise amplified from over-driving the sub.
