Default which way to face ported enclosure

i have a ported enclosure for a 12" subwoofer. my question was wether i would get better sound facing the sub towards the rear or facing the sub upwards. it is going in a 99 civic.

you should put it in. play a song, then turn the box the other config that you wanted, play the same song and see which one you like better. make sure to take into account the rattling from the trunk lid and the fact that while going over some rough bumps, the box could lift off the trunk floor and smash into the back dash

if you had it face back the cone could be damaged by the trunk. I would just try it both ways to see which one you think sounded better. Facing the back would give it the best sound though, but you have to try it really.

mine is currently facing towards the back. i have loads of room between the box and the trunk. just make sure you secure the box down, which ever way you decide to put it in

This also goes for sealed boxes. Just see which position you prefer.

The farther the wave travels the more you can pick up on room gain.
My bandpass box sounds as good as any sealed box I've heard-of course not much comp. around my way

Every car and setup is different. Do what FrozenAcid and b00gers suggested - test it in various positions and use whatever sounds best to you.

assuming its a trunk, majority would go with facing sub/port to the taillights, sound wise that is.
