Default band pass box question

a friend of mine has two twelves in a band pass with the plexiglass front and three or four port holes out the top. it really doesnt hit as hard as i think it could and kinda sounds bad at times with certain bass notes. what would it sound like and is it safe to bump the sub without the plexiglass front? could we simply take it off without it damaging the subs or does it need that front on it to hit properly in that box?
thanks to everyone that post.

the box makes the subs sloppy b/c it's a probably a generic box for it. so the ports aren't the right length and the box is probably to big for it. it wouldn't be any problelm to take off the plexi, it'll pretty much turn to a seal box with it off.

depends on how you want to be. what side of the ports on? if they're on the side with the plexi than no you don't.

In many cases, bandpass boxes are designed from just that type of sound. Loud and sloppy.

id say get a full sealed box alot better sound hits harder. also what subs are in it. if they are small magnets look into bazooka tubes they sound great. might be hard finding custom not those store bought one

the fact is, those plexiglass fronts are more show than go. Get a standard sealed box and you'll see what i mean

This is a common problem with band pass boxes.

They have do be exclusivley designed for the driver, and there is just about no room for error.

Don't plug the ports up. That will just cause worse sound.

Get a sealed box if you are craving better quality, that will be the quickest fix.
