Default Good brand subs or no?

Im thinking about getting a pair of 10" Kicker L7 solo-barics. My friend tells me they slap hard. Are these good subs? He said they match up to JL. is this true? (or partly)

good brand sub IMO but kicker is sloppy like old puddy.
If DB is your desire, then great choice
If SQ is your desire, BAD choice

of course it all depends on the vehicle also

match up how? it depends on what you want in a sub. what about budget, install constraints, etc....it's not an easy question to answer.
