Door kits typicaly just don't have enough mat. The sound waves will travel into the uncovered area and give you distortion. Don't get me wrong though it does help, covering the whole panel is better.

I'd say use a wedge pack and call it a day. 7 inches out from each speaker will be plenty. I started with speaker kits and noticed the difference, when I did more the improvment was marginal at best.
