Default Tinting in NC and VA

Ok so I live in VA, but I go to school down in NC. I wanna get my windows tinted on my Civic, it's white and I really want a nice contrast between dark windows and light body. Only thing is, two of my friends with black BMWs both got legal tints and they dont look very dark at all...anyone know what the maximum tint you can get away with is in these areas? The reason I'm curious is because I don't know the difference in strictness btwn the two areas about tinting laws.

Ill be moving to NC shortly and would like to know as well. I guess it doesn't matter, my tint is illegal here in FL, it's going to be illegal in NC.

I would have asked in the Appearence/Cosmetic forum. The maximum darkness would rely on how strick the cops are in the particular area.
