I have 2 JBL amps. one for my subs, and one for my mids & tweets. I have had them both hooked up through my 1 farad cap for a long time, and they worked fine. today, I took my setup apart so that I could re-arrange my trunk to make it look better. well, I got it all together, looking awesome, and went to turn it on. The sub amp stays on all the time, but the midrange amp goes into protection mode if I turn up the vol. It tries to turn itself back on, too, but then it immideately shuts itself off again. Help! I hooked it up the exact same way as it was before, and now it's doing this! The grounds are solid, power wire is solid, etc. Help!

 

wow that's a bummer to hear. It'd kill me too everytime my amp shut off when i turned the volume up. I want to say that you're overheating the amp and that u should have better ventilation for it, but i can't be 100% sure. How'd u hook the spkrs up? Like i also want to say that maybe your amp can't handle the load of your spkrs. Anybody else think of something?!?

 

i would triple check the wiring, and anything you touched. if it worked before, it should work now.

 

I have quadruple checked everything!! all speakers are hooked up exactly the same as they were before, batt, ground, and remote are all connected perfectly, too! why would it work fine at lower volume(power level) is what i'm wondering.

 

how did you redesign the layout? if the amps are now covered up, higher volume levels will cause the amp to run hotter...and without proper ventilation, the amp will shutdown. i think this is the cause, not how you rewired.

me too. if it is right it is probably the amp.

 

when you hooked everything back up could you have accidentally turned the amplifier gain up? if so, then you are probably overdriving the transistors, and its shutting itself down before it blows. check your gain.

 

Recheck your speaker wires. You may have crossed one sending a crazy load to the amp causing it to go into protection. A shorted speaker wire can cause this also, make sure it isnt exposed in any area while you were moving things around.
