Default Sound Sytem...

Hey guys just a general question about a sound system for my 93 teg. Well I live on the west coast and went to my local car audio store (Audio Express) and they gave me some estimates and a brochure for Alpine. well I went to the Alpine website and built a system, the estimate it gave me was $1,700 for 4 speakers, a deck, 2 amps, and two 10" subs. I was on E-bay the other day and saw some deals on some off-brand prodducts, Pieced together a system for about 500 bucks. My question is this, what is better? going with ebay and the off-brand equipment or forking out the money for the alpine system from Audio Express

Thanks Guys :joshers:

Well, you do get what you pay for. I don't imagine the sound quality would be quite as nice as the Alpine system but it would be better than stock. Alpine isn't the only company out there that makes quality sound systems. Try searching in the Audio/Security section of this forum for some other good brands.

If I were you I'd sart with speakers and go from there. You do get what you pay for, and if you are planning on having the car for a while, it's best to just build from one part at a time. I'm running all Boston pro series speakers with basic Alpine amps, 2 12's and stock head unit. Sounds great for now, and I'll keep building when I get more cash.

I have infinity 6 1/2's in the doors and pioneer 6 1/2's in the back and a clarion head unit, a lanzar vibe 1500 watt monoblock amp running two mtx thunder 12's in a box I built myself and this system has pissed off more than a few cops without having it up so loud it distorts. I got everything used except for the.......wood that the box is built out of, one thing, never buy used subs from anybody, I have 4 pairs of crappy subs that "were good when I had them" off ebay. My system costed me 60 bucks for the 700 dollar deck, 150 for the 350 dollar amp, 15 bucks for the pioneers, 35 for the infinity's, 45 for power wire and 100 bucks for materials to build the box. I got the subs in the box new from a friend for 50 bucks. So ebay around and build a good system yourself unless you are lazy or in a time crunch then have the shop rape you.

i got 2 MTX 7500 super subs hooked up t a 421d monoblock amp. a jvc EXAD headunit, but i havent upgraded the speakers yet.

the stuff you buy on ebay doesnt come with a warranty most of the time. if it says it comes with a warranty it doesnt even matter cause that warranty doesnt matter if u dont buy it from an official dealer. as shmoo said u get what u pay for.

Moved to Audio & Security.

For an affordable set-up, I'll plug Infinity as a brand.
I've used them exclusively in my last 2 cars, and for the money, they're very impressive IMO. Very tight and crisp imaging, with minimal distortion at high volume.
