Engine noise, unsolvable in 5th gen 'cord....
I'm running a 4 channel Fusion FP504 Amp, and it has been giving me a lot of engine noise. I took the car to Tonkins (Car audio specialists, know what they are doing) and they tried everything they could to get rid of the engine noise, but couldn't do it. They suggested it was probably an issue with the amp, and they could send it back to the manufacturer under warranty.
The next part of the story, however is that my friend has the exact same amplifier, which worked fine in his car for a long time, until he had his alternator rebuilt. From this point on the engine noise was prominent, as it seems because the alternator is putting out too much power. Would this be an issue with a 5th gen accord''s alternator? As far as I know the alternator has never been rebuilt or repaired.
Any ideas from the backyard professional in all of you ?

Usually engine noises comes from weak grounding points. If you have already checked the grounding points that you have made, and they are in good shape, then perhaps it is the grounding connections inside of the amp. Send it back.

The alternator doesn't just put out too much power - it only will supply what is requested, there are only four things that really cause alternator noise:
1. bad grounds - issue 90% of the time or more
2. bad RCA cable
3. high output ignition
4. bad amplifier.

just replacing the amp probably won't fix the problem - otherwise send it in to get fixed. If you can, put in another amp that you know works. If the noise is still there, then it's the installation/car, if the noise is gone, it's the amplifier....simple trouble shooting....

what kind of rca's do you have? make sure they're decent and have a nice shielding on them. i use the monster xln rca's and have put the rockfords dual twist rca's. also if it's running along any harness they give off some noise.
how high do you have your gains on your amp b/c if you have noise and your gains are pretty high that will magnify your noise.
i would do what rcurley55 says b/c i'm not to familar with fusion but from what ones i worked on they're not to good with noise. i think they're s/n is kinda low so it won't be able to filter out the noise.
