Default Ditching rear speakers?

Is it necessary to keep your rear speakers when setting up a nice system for sound quality.

I've been thinking of just running front components with a 10" in the rear. I remember reading a while back that upgrading the rear speakers was a waste of time with a sub in the trunk and decent components in the front. Is this true?

ANd if true is it possible to bridge the speaker outputs from the head unit to just run all the power to the front components instead of giving some up to the rear?

Hope I'm clear enough in what I am trying to do.

For true SQ a front stage is all you want. You don't go to a concert and turn your head to the stage.

if you are building an sq system - the last hting you want is deck power

that said, you can't bridge a headunit

Well i'm building it as the money comes. So the deck is going to have to work for now. A 2 channel is next on my list for the components. would fading it 100% front use the power sent to the rear speakers or will it still just be sending the max rated power per channel? ex. 45 x 4

no, just the 18W rms or so to the fronts - the rear speakers will be off - it won't add power to other channels, just reduce output from the other ones.
