Default Shifter warm/hot to touch...

I never had any problem with this till the other day when i was in fifth gear cruzin about 80 for probably half an hour, no shifting, just constantly like that, at that speed. (didnt use cruise)

When i got to the exit i was looking for and went to downshift my shifter (the part you grab, and the metal bar under the cover thing) was warm, almost hot to the touch. Never heard of that, i was thinking it was just because the high speed in one gear for a long time, i dont think anythign is wrong and i sure hope this wouldnt be a sign of tanny problems.

Anyone have any guesses?

Thanks

its because metal conducts heat. The exhaust is running under your car, at just about where the shifter is. and the transmission is very hot also, and heat travel up the linkage. My 2000 does the same thing. its basically useless for me to try to keep drinks cold in the summer, the cup holder get too hot.

yeah its just the exhaust. If it bothers u that much then u can put some heat wrap to reflect the heat donw. But that will add some weight. It happens on my civic.

damn man, the shift knob got hot? that's crazy. i never have that problem unless it's hot outside, but that's to be expected.
