Default Waxing my wheels???

Sweet, i just got my new wheels mounted and balanced on those contiextremes i posted up in an earlier thread. Now im just waiting for my car to get outta the damn shop from all that deer damage :madfawk: Since the rims seem to have a clearcoat finish, is it okay to use some regular meguiars cleaner wax on them or do i have to shell out some extra money for the wheel wax?

theres no real reason to wax them imo there made for durability depending on the manufacturer of the wheel, just keep them clean with some windex!

I wax mine with synthetic waxes. The best you can get in stores is probably mothers reflections. It has a nice shine and it will last a whole lot longer than carnauba will ever last..

Do it, it'll help protect the paint just like on your car. Probably won't hold up as good, but still worth it. I did mine while they were off the car this past winter:

Just don't use a caranuba wax. It won't last longer than 5 minutes. Use a sealant wax if anything. They do make a couple products for wheels, like Wheel Wax.

Your actually suppose to wax your wheels as often that you wax the car. If you have any kinda clear coat on your rims then wax them.

Yeah, but only on polished wheels...just to make sure for others reading this thread..you don't want to use it on painted wheels with a clearcoat like the ones we are talking about above.

Why not schmid? It's painted and clearcoated. Treat it like any other car paint, correct?

I assumed he was talking about Mother's wheel polish for polished aluminum wheels. I didn't know they made a wax/polish specifically for clearcoated wheels.

CLEAR COAT WHEEL POLISH

Clear-coated wheels will dull with time-the surface is a clear coat, which is just like paint. You polish and wax the rest of the paint on your car, right? Give your clear-coated and painted wheels the same respect with Mothers® Clear Coat Wheel Polish. Designed specifically for wheel coatings, it will remove minor scratches and blemishes and polish out all the little imperfections. Your wheels will sparkle just as bright as your paint-give them some Mothers®' love with Clear Coat Wheel Polish.

I guess I was thinking of this type of wheel polish, I've used it on my polished aluminum wheels on my truck, takes forever to get the oxidation off, etc. It'll damage clearcoat wheels.

MAG & ALUMINUM POLISH

This is our legendary metal polish. Mothers®' secret formula balances a brilliant shine with easy use for aluminum wheels and parts, brass, alloys and accessories. Application is just a matter of a clean cloth and a little elbow grease. Mothers® Mag & Aluminum polish is strong enough to put a shine to the most neglected metals and gentle enough to use on a regular basis.

So my bad, sorry, I didn't know they made a clearcoat wheel wax they called "polish".
