Well, That is my question.


Here's my long story: About a month ago I was pulled over by a Durham cop and given a ticket for a modified exhaust. A week later I sent the ticket in and contested it (Court date September 8th). This sunday I was pulled over by a NH State Trooper. He told me my exhaust was modified and illegal. I told him about the other ticket and that I had a court date coming up and he asked me why I hadn't changed my exhaust and I told him because I couldn't afford it. So this jerk gives me a must appear summons for the 21st of this month. And the worst part of the story is he made me get out of my car, stand in front of it while he scraped my inspection sticker off.

Right now my car is getting a stock exhaust put on it because I need to drive the car and my dad is helping me pay for it.

So right now I am toying with the idea of just returning my car to stock instead of dealing with this bullshit from the cops and selling the car. Anyone have any input on this? particularly those who live in NH or those of you who are lawyers?

what kind of exhaust do you have?? is it really loud and what were you doing that the cop noticed your exhaust.

from my experience in NH they won't touch you unless your being an dumbass like reving up your motor, or getting all over the hammer at a stoplight, and having a flashy car doesn't help too.

i'm surprised a statey would pull you over for something that, they general do not bother with BS like that. i can durham though, they must be hippie cops like most of the students at UNH who are environmentalists.

i would say buy the new RSR Ex-mag exhaust. that thing is quieter than a apexi ws and has a black canister that will barely be seen. if a cop busts your balls on that, he's got some seriuos issues.

 

Where can we find this "RSR Ex-mag " exhaust?

AccordSleeper: I *had* a Thermal R&D Stealth that is not very loud but it is rather deep. When the cop got behind me I kept my car at less than 3k the whole time. And the first ticket I got, yes I was being a dumbass... But I usually don't take off close to redline ever (except for this one time, ok maybe a few). And I never rev my engine at a light or a a stop sign or anything stupid like that.
The only 2 places I have been pulled over for this exhaust was in Durham.

Claw02: Grow up? I'm 22 and I have had that exhaust on my car for 2 years and never had a problem with cops or inspection till very recently. Apparently this is a new law about modifing exhausts. You can not change the path (which I did not do) or raise the level of sound from a stock muffler. I had no idea about this law. I know that it was passed to keep the reckless idiot kids out there off the streets and probably deter them from racing somehow but I do not drive recklessly and have never raced on the street before.

Right now I have the a new Stock exhaust on and I feel embarrassed to even drive my car. My car is not flashy; I have a set of 17" Motegi MR12s my car is lowered a little less than 2 inched on sportlines, I have JDM replica headlights and a crappy fake type-r grille (autodynamic). My tails are stock I run amber blinkers and the correct colored sidemarkers in the front and rear.

 

hmm, yeah that's right i forgot you have a Thermal set-up, but it's not a stealth it's a classic. It's similar to the 97+ lude system, where it's quieter than a classic, but not enough to make it a stealth. That's kind messed though since that setup uses dual tips not a huge fart can. My Thermal was so much louder i'm sure and never had a problem.

I don't think that law is new, i'm sure it's been there it's just now they are enforcing it. I just hope they plan to pull over domestics with dual flowmasters just as much as imports.

I think you just got unlucky though. My friend has a Harley F150 and he removed the exhaust from the cat back and has straight pipe with no mufflers. He has yet to get pulled over, but he also has a state inspection license too.

If you need a sticker with an exhaust let me know, you'll have to drive to plaistow though.
