Default subs

I just got two 12's and i'm running them off 800w in my 95 lx. I just wondered if anyone had any suggestions as to the placement of the subs, and also anything to damper rattle. I know that dynamat will help, and plan to get some soon. Right now I have them facing up toward the back deck, against the backseat, and I removed the back speakers, b/c they are blow to hell.

1. put them in one box, a dual chambered one, i have one like that from MTX, with 2 12's and it fits perfectly up against the back seat...

2. turn them around you want them to face the back of the car

3. take a small towle or washcloth and take off your licence plate, place this under your licence plate (fold to make as little show as possible) and put back on, or you can buy a licence place thing from dynomat for like 20 bucks or somthing.

I would dynomat the whole trunk if you dont want rattle they sell kits.

Also you may want to put those speakers back in and just leave them unplugged, with them in your trunk compartment is sealed giving the sub a different sound than if it were open (ever listen to the diff. between subs in a sedan vs. a hatch?)

Any other questions ask

pirate252 offered excellent suggestions, I agree with what he said. You get a better sound when the speakers face the rear of the car. I think dynamat is over rated though. All that stuff is glorified tar paper. I have gotten just as good of results with tar paper from a hardware store as well as the spray on automotive undercoating. Also check Ebay for some generic alternatives. If dynamat's name and claims give you piece of mind, pay the extra money for it.

I really hope you're not running that 800 watt amp off the stock alternator!

Ohm's Law my man.

840 watts / 14.4 volts = 58.33 amps

You should have about 30 extra amps for things like charging the battery, running lights, etc. I don't know about your car but my stock alt is only 65 amps. Also, 58 is a conservative rating because amplifiers are not 100 percent efficient! If your amp's current draw isn't specified in the documentation that came with it, look and see if there are any fuses on the side. Add up the values of all the fuses and that will give you an idea of the current draw you're dealing with.

BTW, is that 840 watts peak or RMS?

If that's a peak rating, you're looking at the following:

((840 watts) / square root of 2) / 14.4 volts = 41.2 amps

I have 2 amps, 3 subs, and a 1 farad cap in my truck (300 watts RMS total) and I went from the stock alt of 65 amps to an aftermarket high output alt of 130 amps and I was amazed at the performance increase in the bass response of the system. Then again, I don't have a digital mono sub amp.
