Default Painting Questions.

I just Painted some M3 mirrors and a bumper with some Primer and a couple of layers of Du Pont Base Coat. My question is if I have to do anything else before i apply the Clear Coat? Should i Sand it down with a >1500 Grit paper or rub it with rubbing compound? Clay Bar maybe? Thanks for any replies

When I was painting my computer case, I tried doing a clear coat right after doing the navy blue. But it aligatored, which means crackled up. My metals workshop teacher suggested that after every coat you should sand it down with very light sandpaper like the 1500 grit or at least 1000. I'm not sure though.

yeah sand it down smooth, i even suggest 2000 grit.. then compound it.. then clear..then wait for a day, then clear.. takes forever but looks pimp.
